2011 Taipei Arts Festival – Let’s Mix Night and Electricity, and host a Philosophy Party

Taipei Arts Festival, first launched in 1999, is one of the important annual events of the capital city. The Festival aimed to bring together government, industry and private-sector resources to provide a platform among performing arts groups from Taipei and other cities of the world, hoping to promote arts education to the citizens while at the same time boost Taipei's tourism.

Visit of the artistic giants, shaking the soul of the city

From July 28th to September 4th 2011, the 2011 Taipei Arts Festival invites you to join artistic giants for “Let’s Mix the Night and Electricity for a Philosophy Party”. An encounter between humanity and technology, it will definitely obliterate “Sense and Sensibility”, helping to bring forth fresh sparks of perfect fusion through its depth and width.

William Forsythe, the dance king, describes his exhibition: “The Forsythe Company will present a series of choreographic objects and films at the 2011 Taipei Arts Festival including Synchronous Objects co-produced by The Ohio State University's Advanced Computing Center for the Arts and Design (ACCAD) and The Forsythe Company”. This is exactly how the ingenious choreographer makes use of technology for self-analysis, providing the perfect demonstration of using the digital brain to conduct philosophical deliberations. Warehouse 2-5 of Songshan Creative & Cultural Park will be divided into several spaces, using massive amounts of images and digital media for interactive installations which will guide viewers into the head of a giant to create ideas together with dance moves.

”Ritter, Dene, Voss” directed by Krystian Lupa, a giant in the European world of drama, re-creates the colossal profiles of two major geniuses in literature and philosophy, the play’s author Thomas Bernhard, and philosopher Ludwig Wittgenstein.

 “Anthology of Optimism” is a work with which the creator is now ready to start the dynamic transformation of your brain, beginning a butterfly effect.
“Who’s Hung Tung,” “The Dreamy Fallacy,” and “Eastern Tale,” presents a puppet show, musical, and modern dance piece, respectively, to re-create the authentic and innermost sentiment of folk artist Hung Tung, Taiwanese musician Lee Tai-hsiang, and “Farewell My Concubine”, as well as present the profound endowment realized in oriental aesthetics by the combination of inflexibility and yielding.

While you are enjoying yourselves with these giants, please don’t forget to look up, for Xarxa Teatre of Castellon, Spain, is making magic in Taipei’s night sky: “Fire of the Sea” (El Foc del Mar) and “Night Magic” (Nit Màgica) allow images of childhood fun from the great artist Miro to walk off the canvas and turn themselves into fireworks. They combine the tradition of parades and boisterous music of Valencia, loudly calling on spectators to jointly walk the streets with the giants, and exuberantly soak in joy and gaiety with everyone at the square in front of Taipei City Hall.
